THE SLOW MORNING: 5 RITUALS FOR A SPACIOUS DAY
In our fast-paced modern world, mornings are frequently rushed—a blur of alarms, notifications, and instant demands. At cozycove, we believe the morning is sacred time meant to be savored.
“How we spend our mornings is ultimately how we spend our lives.”
1. Delay digital connection for at least one hour after waking.
2. Let natural sunlight meet your eyes before screen light.
3. Savor a single warm beverage without multi-tasking.
4. Spend five minutes in total silence observing your surroundings.
5. Move slowly without feeling the impulse to hurry.
WHERE TO WANDER: UNCOVERING QUIET COVES
Beyond the main thoroughfares lies a quieter landscape waiting for thoughtful discovery. We share our favorite hidden walking paths, quiet tidal pools, and local artisans.
STAYING WELL: MINDFUL RETREAT PRACTICES
True wellness isn't about rigid schedules; it is about returning to a gentle rhythm. Discover simple practices to cultivate calm during your stay.
READING THE TIDE: A SHORELINE CALENDAR
The shoreline keeps its own time. It does not care about our schedules, our meetings, or our habit of measuring days in hours. It moves to the rhythm of the moon, and everything that lives along it — the herons, the mussels, the tiny crabs tucked into rock crevices — follows a calendar older than any we invented.
“The sea does not hurry, and yet everything is accomplished.”
Learning to read the tide is one of the quiet pleasures of staying at cozycove. It begins with a simple observation: at low tide, the shore expands. Rock pools that were invisible an hour before reveal themselves. The smell of the air changes. Birds that were floating offshore now stand in shallow water, waiting.
High tide is the opposite. The water arrives without drama, slowly covering the rocks, reclaiming the spaces where you walked just hours earlier. The shoreline narrows. The tide pools fill. Everything moves a little further inland.
Here at the guesthouse, we keep a tide chart on the kitchen wall. Guests often ask us what time to walk the beach, and the answer is always the same: "Walk it twice — once at each tide." The shore you see at 7 AM is not the shore you will see at 2 PM. It is, in a very real sense, a different landscape.
A few practical notes for guests planning their walks:
— The two hours either side of low tide offer the longest stretch of sand.
— The two hours either side of high tide offer the best light for photographs.
— Dawn and dusk are the quietest times; the shore is rarely shared with more than a few birds.
— Wear shoes you do not mind getting wet. The shoreline does not negotiate.
And if you find yourself standing on the sand with no particular plan and no particular urgency — that is the entire point. The tide will come in whether you are watching it or not. You might as well watch.
AT THE KITCHEN TABLE: SEASONAL DISHES FROM THE COAST
The kitchen table at cozycove is not a formal dining space. It is a working table — scarred by years of chopping, ringed by mismatched chairs, and perpetually scattered with whatever the garden gave us that morning. Almost every meal we serve is composed on this table, not planned in advance.
“A kitchen is not a room. It is a way of paying attention to the season.”
Our approach to cooking follows a simple rule: cook what is ready, not what is scheduled. If the tomatoes are at their peak on a Tuesday, we serve tomatoes on Tuesday. If the herbs are fading by Friday, we use them on Friday. This is not a philosophy we invented — it is simply how cooking works when you live where food is grown.
Guests often ask us for recipes. Our honest answer is that most of what we cook does not have a recipe. It has a method:
1. Start with what the garden or the market gave you today.
2. Choose two or three ingredients that belong together — no more.
3. Cook them simply, with good oil, good salt, and enough time.
4. Serve them warm, at the kitchen table, with bread.
5. Do not apologize for imperfection. It is part of the meal.
What follows is not a menu. It is an invitation. When you sit at our table, you are eating what we are eating, on the day we are eating it. Tomorrow it will be something else.
SEASONAL LIGHT: HOW THE SUN RESHAPES OUR ROOMS
When we designed cozycove, we did not design the light. We simply chose the orientation of the building, the size of the windows, and the depth of the eaves — and then the sun did the rest. The rooms you see in summer are not the same rooms you see in winter. They cannot be.
“A room is not finished until the light has agreed to it.”
In summer, the sun rises early and travels high across the sky. The morning light enters through the east-facing windows and lands, without ceremony, on the concrete kitchen floor. By mid-afternoon the light has moved into the living room. It remains there until it exits, almost horizontally, through the west wall — turning the room gold for about twenty minutes before it leaves.
In winter, the sun travels low. The light never quite reaches the floor. It lands instead on the walls, on the timber beams, on the far side of the room. It paints long, slow shapes across the surfaces and then retreats. Everything is softer. The rooms feel smaller in winter, but they also feel more intimate.
Guests notice this immediately. Some of them tell us that they have never noticed light like this before — that they have never sat in a room and watched the sun move across it. We always answer the same way: you have probably never sat still long enough to see it. The light was always doing this. You were just moving through it.
This is why we built the guesthouse the way we did. Not because the architecture is remarkable — it is deliberately restrained — but because the light needed space to move. The walls are quiet. The furniture is spare. The rooms have no ornament that competes with the sun.
What remains is a building that belongs, at any given hour, to the light passing through it. Every room is different in every season. And every guest who stays here long enough will, eventually, stop and watch it change.
WE BUILT COZYCOVE FOR SLOWER DAYS
Our Philosophy
Cozycove began with a simple desire: to create a sanctuary free from the noise and pressure of conventional hospitality. We wanted a place where quietness was celebrated, architectural minimalism elevated comfort, and guests felt genuinely at ease.
Thoughtful Hospitality
We do not offer generic hotel formulas. Instead, every detail—from hand-selected linen textures to local seasonal breakfast treats—is chosen with intentionality.
From a stone cottage to a place where people slow down.
Cozycove began in 2019 with a single stone cottage on the coast and a stubborn belief that hospitality had lost its way. The building had been empty for nearly a decade — damp walls, sagging roof, and windows that let in more wind than light. We bought it not because it was beautiful, but because it was the right shape: a simple rectangle facing the sea, with a small courtyard behind it where the sun lingered all afternoon.
The restoration took two years. We worked with local stonemasons and carpenters, keeping the original walls wherever possible and adding only what the building genuinely needed. Nothing was imported, nothing was imported, and nothing was added for the sake of appearing "designed." The first guests arrived in the spring of 2021 — five of them, in three rooms, with a wood-burning stove and a single pot of coffee to share each morning.
Seven years later, the property has grown, but the founding premise has not changed. We are still a small guesthouse run by people who live on the coast, still choose every furnishing by hand, and still believe that the most memorable hospitality is the kind that does not announce itself.
What we are not is a hotel. We do not have a front desk, a formal check-in process, or a concierge. Guests arrive when they arrive, and we meet them at the door. What we offer is closer to the experience of staying at the home of a friend — someone who happens to have excellent taste, a very good kitchen, and a deep knowledge of the coast.
Four principles that shape every decision we make.
Slowness as a design choice
Every element of the property is deliberately understated. There are no screens in the rooms, no piped music in the gardens, and no demands on your attention. The building encourages you to do less, not more.
Local is not a trend
Everything we serve, from the bread to the olive oil to the soap in the bathroom, is produced within fifty kilometres of the guesthouse. Not because it is fashionable, but because it is better.
Hospitality should feel personal
We know every guest by name. We remember what you like to drink in the morning. We know which path along the coast you would enjoy most. This is not a service — it is simply how we live.
Buildings should age well
We chose materials — stone, oak, lime plaster, brass — that improve with time. Nothing in the property is designed to stay new. Everything is designed to become more itself as the years pass.
"A place is not beautiful because of what you add to it. It is beautiful because of what you choose to leave out."— The Founders of Cozycove
A small property, deliberately limited.
Cozycove consists of three individual cottages and a central courtyard garden. Each cottage has its own character, its own orientation, and its own view of the landscape. None of them shares a wall with another.
Sea-facing, with direct terrace access and a wood-burning stove. Suited to guests who want the sound of the water in the background of their entire stay.
Overlooking the courtyard, with direct access to the herb beds. Sheltered from the wind, warm in the afternoon, quiet in the morning.
Facing west over the hills, with a large window designed for watching the light change at the end of the day. The warmest room in winter.
A small team, working quietly.

What a stay at Cozycove actually feels like.
Arrive
No formal check-in. A pot of tea on the terrace, a short walk through the property, and the quiet permission to do nothing for the rest of the day.
Settle
Fresh flowers from the garden in every room, linen sheets changed daily, and the smell of bread baking in the kitchen each morning.
Explore
Maps of local walks left in each room. Recommendations for the quietest hours at the coves. Introductions to the artisans we work with.
Return
Guests often come back. We keep a small record of what each guest preferred — the tea, the book, the walk — so the second stay feels like a continuation of the first.
We do not accept advertising from travel platforms, hotel booking sites, or hospitality brands. Every recommendation we make to a guest — a restaurant, a walk, an artisan — is included because we genuinely believe in it, not because there is a commercial relationship.
We do not sell guest data. Reservation details, preference notes, and correspondence are retained strictly for operational purposes and are never shared with third parties.
We do not publish guest names, photographs, or testimonials without explicit written permission. Discretion is a foundational principle of this property, not a marketing preference.
We do not use AI-generated writing or responses. Every message you receive from us is written by a person who knows the property and has looked at your specific reservation.
If this resonates,
we would like to hear from you.
Whether you are planning a stay, curious about the property, or simply want to ask a question before deciding, we are glad to begin with a quiet conversation.
